This heralded not only the beginning of the Berry Blue family, but also a huge step forward for indoor cultivation. In the 80s and 90s, sativa plants were relentlessly crossed with indica varieties. Unfortunately, pure sativa varieties have fallen victim to the rapid advancement of indoor cultivation. The emergence of indica-sativa hybrids has fundamentally changed cannabis culture.
The sweet, fruity, blueberry aroma and flavour made Blueberry an icon among cannabis enthusiasts. The buds are compact and hard and it tends to grow more narrow garlands than loose long buds.
Undoubtedly, the unique terpene profile is what Blueberry owes its reputation to. Other features include a delicious-tasting, soothing, long-lasting high. That’s why Blueberry strains are loved by both professional and home growers alike. Let’s take a look at just a few of the many blueberry strains out there:
Blue Cheese
Blue Cheese is a true gourmet cannabis hybrid, perhaps one of the tastiest duos on the planet. Only the infamous UK Cheese and the original Blueberry can create such a unique and delectable hybrid. A real treat for the palate. A great mix of berry flavours and musky, earthy cheese aromas can be felt in the air and you can still feel a pleasant aftertaste long after exhalation. Plus, it only takes a few delicious tokes for its powerful effects to be felt.
After only 9 weeks of flowering, a yield of 500-600 g / m2 can be harvested using SOG. In the open air, the plant can grow taller than the usual 1-1.2 m, up to 2 m. In super-hot climates, some plants can produce up to 500+ grams. Pruning can require a little more attention and care than the average high-growth hybrids, but the benefits far outweigh any such issues.
Fruit Spirit
Lovers of the White and Blue berry breeds can rejoice; Fruit Spirit is the cannabis cocktail that dreams are made of. This hybrid offers both a mouth-watering Blueberry flavour and an abundant resin crop courtesy of Dutch Coffeeshop favourite White Widow - all in one cool, compact package. Do not be fooled by the appearance of the plant. A sativa in disguise, Fruit Spirit may surprise with its heady high; it is a real smooth, mood-inducing strain. The plant is a classic, multi-branched, heavy indica marijuana. It is typically small and rarely reaches a height of 1 metre indoors. However, it can be grown amazingly well in small spaces using the SOG method.
Haze Berry
Haze Berry brings the characterful, sweet, fruity flavour of its sativa roots, which has been achieved by successfully crossing the super resin Shining Silver Haze and the OG Blueberry strain. Its plants stretch to develop long, resin-dripping clusters from thin buds. Indoors, its height can reach up to 1.5 metres, and in sunnier climates, can typically grow to 2 metres outdoors. Pruning the plant at the outset is generally recommended. These sweet trees are very fertile, with their branches almost bending under the weight of their beautiful and sturdy buds.
Under artificial lighting, a yield of 675 g / m2 can be expected, and in sunnier areas, outdoor growers can achieve similar results. If you still have a little free space in your growing area, Hazy Berry definitely deserves a try.
Blueberry Crystal
Blueberry Crystal is a ruderalis / sativa / indica heavy variety that can be grown both indoors (with an expected flowering time of around 119 days), outdoors, as well as in a greenhouse. It is a THC dominant variety and is available in regular seeds.
It reaches a height of between 1,5 - 2,5 metres, has a high cannabinoid content, and will harvest between 4 to 4,5 months after germination.
This potent plant with predominantly indica genes produces a large amount of resin filled with juicy cannabinoids. Its flowers are dewy, aromatic and compact, with delicious flavours and aromas of fruit wrapped in musky earth tones. A beautiful looking strain, it goes a stunning burgundy or purple colour during curing.
Blue Mystic
Blue Mystic has particularly strong Blueberry characteristics, and is an indica dominant strain. This member of the Blue family combines fruity flavours with a calming and soothing high. Its plant is compact with a short stature, and is typically recommended for cultivation using SOG, only reaching a height of 1 metre or less when grown inside. Even beginners can expect a yield of 400g / m2 after around 8 weeks of flowering. Outdoors, Blue Mystic can bush up to a height of approximately 2 metres, and produce anywhere from 450 g of crop per plant.
Conclusion
These are just a few of the strains where Blueberry’s influence can be felt. There are many of them and they are not hard to come by. Furthermore, it isn’t too hard to find a strain that offers the other characteristics you prefer, no matter what kind of smoker you are. Next time you feel like trying something new, then why not try Blueberry for yourself.
